Symon Petliura (May 10, 1879, Poltava – May 25, 1926, Paris) was a publicist, writer, journalist, Ukrainian politician, statesman, and national leader who led Ukraine's struggle for independence following the Russian Revolution of 1917.

During the period of Ukrainian independence in 1918–1920, he was Head of the Ukrainian State.

On May 25, 1926 Petliura was assassinated in Paris by the Jewish anarchist Sholom Schwartzbard.

Petliura is buried alongside his wife and daughter in the Cimetière du Montparnasse in Paris, France.

Serge Lifar

Serge Lifar was ballet dancer and choreographer of Ukrainian origin, famous as one of the greatest male ballet dancers of the 20th century.

He died in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1986, aged 81.

The bust was opened by Soviet embassy in 1978 in Boulevard Saint-Germain, in the park which was named after Taras Shevchenko. Monument's author is sculptor M. Lysenko from Kyiv. There is a copy of this monument, which is situated in the yard of National arts and architecture academy in Kyiv.
